Gecko Press specialises in English versions of curiously good children’s books from around the world. We choose books by award-winning authors and illustrators; those that have an established body of work, and a strong profile in countries other than their own. We also publish some New Zealand children’s fiction and non-fiction.
We welcome submissions and suggestions for publishing, especially from literary agents and established authors and illustrators.
How to submit
Please submit your manuscripts typed, double-spaced, with a wide margin. All pages should be numbered. If your manuscript is lengthy, please send us the first two or three chapters only.
Your manuscript should be accompanied by:
1. A written proposal explaining what the book is, why it should
be published, who will buy it, i.e. the intended audience, and how it
is different from other books on the subject.
2. A list of any previous work you have had published and some
background information about yourself.
3. If appropriate, samples of illustrations (not originals).

We no longer accept emailed submissions.
Please note
If you wish to have your material returned, please provide addressed pre-paid packaging. Gecko Press does not carry insurance for submitted manuscripts, so always keep a copy of your work. If you do not include a self-addressed stamped envelope, your manuscript will be destroyed.
We aim to respond in six to eight weeks.
